MYO string players were invited to participate in a side-by-side play-in with Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, onstage at Carnegie Hall. The play-in was conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who is also music director of The Metropolitan Opera and The Philadelphia Orchestra, and Naomi Woo, the Orchestre Métropolitain’s assistant conductor. Music for the play-in included Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Brahms’s Hungarian Dance No. 5, and Happy Birthday for Maestro Nézet-Séguin!

Our Nassau String Orchestra performed a wide variety of exhilarating classical music at the Port Washington Children’s Center on Thursday, April 11, 2019 led by Director Michelina Sobolewski. Kindergarten through 6th grade children, many of them young musicians-in-the-making, were introduced to the string orchestra and given the opportunity to accompany them with a rainstick and ask questions about the music and the instruments being played. They were also treated to a conductor-less performance of Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik.

Our Nassau String Orchestra introduced and performed a wide variety of exciting classical music by Bach, Bartok, Balmages and more at the Port Washington Children’s Center on Thursday, April 21, 2016 led by Director Michelina Sobolewski. 40 children, in 3rd through 6th grade, attended the concert and were introduced to the string orchestra, and were given the opportunity to ask and answer questions about the music and the instruments being played. Our favorite question of the afternoon: “How do you make the music so smooth?”
